The Community Frequency

Seven Group Sessions · 32 Listeners So Far

This lab begins with a question:Does a community have a fundamental frequency?Exploring the foundation of a sonic landscape upon which collective identity stands.

How the Lab Works

Over 15 minutes, twenty-four microtones were played across one octave of the low-frequency spectrum, 35 to 62 Hz. Four to five people at a time wore EEG headbands paired with VVSSL stimulus software, which tracked each body and mind as it listened, capturing individual and collective response simultaneously.

Your session was part of that search. What these sessions discover will shape a new composition, an immersive multichannel sound experience for all participants at Brafe Camp 2026.

Every reading is an artistic experiment drawn from a handful of sensors, not a medical or diagnostic result. The data from each session is treated as strictly confidential and used only for this artistic research.

How the Community Responded

Across every session, one note resonated more than the rest. At that tone the community signal was strongest, relaxation, focus, and alertness moving further from average than anywhere else in the octave. The fundamental frequency for 2026 has now been determined from all participants and all sessions combined.

The note is held until Brafe Camp, where it will be released as a shared deep listening experience on September 10th, 2026, and made accessible afterwards to everyone, including those who cannot attend. Your own frequency, and every other reading on this page, is yours to hear now.

Across all participants, the average heart rate held around 91 beats per minute.

What Each Metric Means

Relaxation
How calm and settled the mind is, slow restful activity against fast busy activity. Higher is calmer. The low end of the calm-to-alert line.
Alertness
How switched-on body and mind are, read from heart rate and faster brain activity. Higher is more stirred. The high end of the same line.
Focus
How much a sound caught and held attention. Higher is engaged, lower is attention drifting.
Heart Rate
Beats per minute. A slowing heart usually means settling, a quickening one means gearing up.
Stillness
Head movement from the headband's motion sensor. Still moments give cleaner, more trusted readings.
Signal Quality
How well the headband sat against the skin. Low-quality stretches are recorded but left out of the reading.
